BFG joins Hot Rodders Hall of Fame at the 2022 gathering of the Grand National Roadster Show

by Erin Montague…

A rousing crowd of rowdy automotive enthusiasts including famed customizers, race car notables and hot rodders from far and wide descended into the LA County Fairgrounds to take part with this years’ GNRS Awards celebration.

In addition to BFG and the 2022 honorees, a host of famed notables were present…
Gene Winfield, Daryl Starbird, Jimmy Shine, Cole Foster, Roy Brizio, Eric Peratt, John Buck, Greg Sharpe, Tony Thacker, Larry Erickson, Bruce Meyer, Eric Geisert, Tom Gomez, Joji Barris, West Coast Kustoms Penny, every one of the guys named, “Bob”, [you know who they are!], were among the many other gearheads enjoying lively libations amidst the ceremonious presentation.

At the evening’s conclusion, Billy F Gibbons and his custom car and hot rodding pals cruised through Pomona’s many fairground buildings to check out the array of candy, chrome and far-out fuel demons.

Quite the night…!

Congratulations to BFG and the GNRS Hall of Fame honorees…!

Gibbons floors it

Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top was named to the Grand National Roadster Show Hall of Fame at the organization’s event Friday at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona. Gibbons accepted the award by telling the crowd of 1,000 gear heads, “I’m going to radically re-shape the ‘34 Ford ZZ Top Eliminator, and CadZZilla, and restore them to their original condition.”

The two custom-restored vehicles are among the most famous street rods in the world, featured in ZZ Top videos and album art for decades. Returning these cars to their original state would be nearly impossible, and sacrilegious to the hot-rod community.

Gibbons was joking, of course. But as he said, “There was a brief gasp.”

  1. Congrats Billy Gibbons! Your VW ragtop “The Pearl Necklace” is not in your new book. I’m a HUGE fan of yours, and I can’t wait when you guys come out with a new album!
